I was reading the magazine Real Simple and they had a great tip for making hardened brown sugar soft again. You microwave it for 15 seconds.

I tried this with some brown sugar i had that was hardened for over a year - and sure enough it did the trick and was fluffy soft once again!

I use the old fashioned method when the sugar gets hard. I have this nice old wooden mallet, and a few slugs with it does the job just fine.

Other methods include putting a slice of bread in your brown sugar or a slice of apple.

We always put a slice of bread in our brown sugar. It works great. It always stays moist that way.
