Risotto question

I cannot find arborio rice around here but I did find medium grain rice. Can I use that for risotto?

I don't think a medium grain rice will work. Here's what I have: "choose short-grained round or semi-round rice; among the best rices for making risotti are Arborio, Vialone Nano, and Carnaroli. Other short-grained rices such as Originario will also work. Long grained rice such as Patna won't do, because the grains will stay separate."

But never tell a person not to do something, because they will.:D

No one had short grained. Kroger's was out of arborio.
Ill just wait til I get the right stuff.

Thanks..

The short grain seems to be more of a specialty item. I wonder if the Whole Foods stores would carry it?

Whole foods absolutely carries may varieties but unfortunately I don't think there is one in Jglass' area.

Nope no Whole Foods. We have two small grocerys stores here in town. One is called Slones Market and the other is a small Foodland. Jon and I go a couple of counties over once a month to hit up Kroger's, Big Lots and Walmart to get the stuff I cannot find here. It was just my luck I went when Kroger's was out of it. They had the spot on the shelf for it but it was empty. I will be going again the first week of next month so hopefully they will have it then.
