Although I'm somewhat of a gadget freak I see no need for a garlic press at all.

It doesn't take much time to prep garlic. And a press limits your options, because it can make a difference, in a recipe, whether the garlic is sliced, minced, or crushed.

As to the stuff in the jar, what's the point? You're paying a premium so that somebody else can peel your garlic. Not worth it to me; especially as the stuff in jars doesn't have a fresh-garlic flavor.

With that being said, I will from time to time buy the stuff in the plastic jar that is peeled and that you have to refrigerate, especially when I know I have a "40 cloves of garlic" recipe coming up. I never buy the minced garlic though..
