I tried the jarred stuff once - never again - didn't like it at all!!
Although I'm somewhat of a gadget freak I see no need for a garlic press at all.
It doesn't take much time to prep garlic. And a press limits your options, because it can make a difference, in a recipe, whether the garlic is sliced, minced, or crushed.
As to the stuff in the jar, what's the point? You're paying a premium so that somebody else can peel your garlic. Not worth it to me; especially as the stuff in jars doesn't have a fresh-garlic flavor.
