That peeler did look cool-really, really fast! I did see the tomato-growing-upside down thing... It looked like a very different idea. I would probably just grow them in a pot but that's just me. Cookie

Janie, those topsy turvey planters are incredibly overpriced, IMO.
People have been growing tomatoes upside down for years, now. Just get yourself a 5-gallon pail (you can get them free at the bakery departments in supermarkets). Cut a small hole in the bottom. Fill the bucket. Plant your seedling right side up.
Once the seedling has rooted solidly, you can hang the pail. Use the mouth for a second crop, such as basil.
As with any container planting, it's important to watch your moisture and nutrient levels, because they both deplete rapidly.

Jon's Dad was just showing me tonight he had constructed himself one very much like what you describe Brook. I am going to get a cherry or grape tomato plant for the balcony this year but I will just put it into a pot.
I had to go down to Jon's Dads after it got dark. I have a sparkplug mis-firing and he wanted to check it out and see if it was throwing sparks. It was..I have to get some new plugs and plugwires in the next few days. My car is running like and dog and not even that good when it rains lol.

I have grown tomatoes hanging from 5 gallon buckets for years. I can't believe the price they are charging for the items to do the same thing on those infomercials. The tomato tree is the biggest joke ever. Yes for 3 easy payments of 19.95 you can grow your very own tomatoes. Come on. You have got to be kidding. They sell you a plastic bag hanging on an IV bag holder. And then to hype it up they go into all the great tomato product recipes you can put together with your luscious vine ripened tomatoes but not once mention a tomato sandwich. Everyone that grows tomatoes knows that's the most important item most tomato growers wait for since they planted their first seed.
