I want to make those little fried donuts. I tried a recipe I found online and the doughnut tasted like oil. I got dizzy after I ate several pieces. I think it absorbed a lot of oil.

Any recipes?

don't throw away the recipe - your doughnuts absorbed too much oil because the temperature of the oil was too low when you put them in the hot oil - whne the temperature of th oil is correct a "crust" (for lack of a better word forms around the outside preventing oil for been absorbed.

You didn't specify if you wanted a yeast-raised donut recipe or a cake-like - so here's one without yeast - if you want a yeast donut recipe - let me know.

Cake Donuts

1 1/2 cups sugar
3 Tblsp. melted shortening
3 large eggs
1 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla extract
5 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. nutmeg
2 cups mashed potatoes, cooled
3 to 3-1/2 cups flour

Beat eggs; add sugar, shortening and vanilla. Add mashed potatoes
and milk and beat with electric mixer until smooth. Add flour, baking
powder, salt and nutmeg. Stir in additional flour to reach batter
consistency (this is "by look and feel"?? It should still be somewhat
sticky...it will pick up more flour when you roll out the dough on a
floured surface). Chill the dough for several hours or overnight.

Take a portion of the dough and rough out to about 3/8 to 1/2 inch
thickness, using flour as needed to prevent your rolling pin picking
up dough. Use a donut cutter and cut out your donuts. Preheat oil in
deep fryer to 375F (use a thermometer if you're using a fry daddy!).

Fry 3-4 donuts at a time - turning when they are a nice golden brown.
Drain on brown paper bags or paper towels to remove excess grease.


Drop Doughnut Balls

Makes 3 dozen
1 egg
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup milk
1 tablespoon CRISCO all-vegetable shortening or 1 tablespoon CRISCO Stick, melted
1-1/2 cups sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
CRISCO Shortening or CRISCO Stick for deep frying

Combine egg, sugar, milk and melted Crisco.
Mix flour, salt, baking powder and spices. Combine the liquid and dry ingredients. Mix until well blended.
Drop from a teaspoon into deep Crisco heated to 365ºF (or when an inch cube of bread browns in 60 seconds).
Fry doughnut balls until brown and cooked in center (about 4 minutes). Drain on absorbent paper. Roll in powdered sugar, if desired.

Oh, thank you so much Mama Mangia!

The doughnuts that I cooked were really soggy because of the oil. It absorbed everything! Next time, I'm going to check the temperature first.

I like the recipes you gave me. I prefer cake over yeast doughnut because it's easier to prepare.
