What sugar substitutes do you use? Are you all in favor of using sugar substitutes or are you doubtful about their side effects?

I have no problem with sugar substitutes myself. I know opinions vary, but so many times researchers have thought there was a problem with a sugar substitute, but then retracted it (Anyone remember how saccharine was supposed to cause cancer, but then they decided it didn't?)

What I know is that all sugar substitutes has the possibility of causing cancer in varying degrees. But all has very small chances that it is almost impossible for one person to consume cancerous amounts.

I use Splenda, occasionally, that is about it. Nutrasweet gives me the jitters. I try not to use any of them if I can avoid it.

I do use raw sugar, fruit juice or honey in recipes whenever I can get by with it and not really affect the taste. I know it doesn't help with the calories, but I feel like it is closer to the natural state of things, so it has to be healthier right? Probably it is just my illusion. When I use sugar I try to buy pure cane sugar.

What's the word on Spenda with diabetics? 'Cause I know it's actually sugar, just a different molecule so it's not absorbed. Or something like that.
