I never would use the mandolin type slicers for fear of losing a finger or two or three. I prefer to chop by hand unless I need a large quantity chopped and then I turn to my tried and true Cuisinart food processor.

I mean I was an idiot and I held the tomato in place with my hand while slicing it on the slicer and it took off a smidgen of the tip of my index finger. Yes, I know, it was hugely stupid of me.

My mom was using a slicer with a defective guard on it and her boss would not fix it until it cut 1/3 of her finger off lengthwise! It wasn't a pretty sight and that was over 15 years ago and it is still giving her problems.

That sounds soooo good! I'll have to try that next time I have philly steaks in the house.
