Well, this is an old family recipie that my grandmother used to make. It is really easy and tastes great. Basically you make Tuna salad (like you would use for Tuna Salad Sandwiches). Take hamburger buns and butter the inside face of them. Place these butter-side up on a baking sheet. Next, spread on the tuna salad and then top with cheese. Place these in the broiler to melt the cheese and toast the bread. Once toasted, be sure to give them a few minutes to cool down because they will be too hot to eat. The specific of this are not important because Tuna salad can be made many ways....make it the way you normally would.

That sounds somewhat like a crab cake but without the breadcrubs to bind them together. Do these set up so they don't fall apart as you eat them?

Growing up my Mom made what we called tuna melts. She made them by taking an English muffin and spliting it in half. Place the muffins on a cookie sheet and top with a generous amount of tuna fish (prepared with diced celery and onion). She would then put a slice of Sharp Cheddar cheese on top and place under the broiler until the cheese was melted. I have not had these is a long time and will have to go to the store and buy some muffins so that I can make them.

They dont fall apart at all. The only downside to using large slices of cheese rather than shredded is that sometimes when you take a bite, all your cheese comes off in one bite. The top and bottom are slightly crisp from being toasted, but the center of the bun is still soft and the tuna salad is soft as well. These are really easy to make and (as some of you apparantly have a similar dish) are really tasty. See what I did? Now you ALL want some. I classify this 100% as a comfort food for me.
