As odd as this appetizer recipe sounds, the tastes of the three ingredients combines to make a delicious treat.

Asparagus, fresh or canned, fresh is better
Cream cheese
Sliced, formed luncheon ham like DAK

If using fresh asparagus, cook the asparagus for 7-8 minutes until soft but still a little crunchy.

Place a slice of ham on a plate or cutting board. Spread cream cheese over the ham. Place one stalk of asparagus on the ham, and roll up the ham around the asparagus. Make as many as you like, allowing 2 to 3 per serving. Absolutely delicious.

Sounds delicious! I love asparagus and cream cheese (not necessarily together) and I'll definitely try your recipe.

DrPepper, if you can share more "tried-and-tested" asparagus recipes, you'll make one old girl really happy. ;)

I have my own asparagus bed and it's amazing to me that you can always find fresh asparagus in the grocery store. Asparagus can only be cut for about 4 to 5 weeks and then you have to let the plant rejuvenate.

I like my asparagus with a lemon butter sauce. Mix 1 tbsp lemon juice with 3 tbsp butter. Serve with cooked yet firm asparagus, cooked about 8 minutes at most.

I like to serve a blanched asparagus on salad trays along with the broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, etc. Just cook the asparagus for a few minutes until crunchy, yet soft and edible. Don't cook the asparagus until limp or you won't be able to serve them. They need to be cooked like the crunchiness of a crisp cucumber and no longer. Then serve with other vegetables along with a dip.
