I usually eat this for breakfast when I need a jolt, but it's great as a dessert too. It is very good, but about as healthy as a plate of cookies This recipe is for a single serving.
INGREDIENTS:
- one plain roll, sliced
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 or 2 handfulls of sugar
Heat the oil in a pan on medium/high until it's warm. Add the sugar and the roll halves. Make sure the halves are coated with the sugar mixture on all sides. Cook until the sugar has caramalized on the roll and make sure not to let the oil burn. The sugar will darken; it may look burned but it's not really. The roll is finished cooking when the sugar has become an appealing color.

My grandma used to make a dish called "Frattelles" (sp?) that was white bread dough, fried in a pan, and served with cinnamon-sugar or applesauce. It was sooooooooo good!

God, I can't let my hubby see this. This sounds like his perfect non-chocolate dessert. He loves sweet things & bread, so this would be perfect for him. The man has been known to put sugar on buttered bread. I'd never heard of that before I saw him do it.
