Bread Bowls

INGREDIENTS
1 cup plus 3 tablespoons water (70° to 80°)
2 tablespoons Olive Oil
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
3 cups bread flour
2-1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast

DIRECTIONS
In bread machine pan, place all ingredients in order suggested by manufacturer.
Select dough setting (check after 5 minutes of mixing; add 1 to 2 tablespoons of water or flour if needed).
When the cycle is completed, turn dough onto a lightly floured surface.
Divide into fourths; shape each into a ball. Place on a greased baking sheet.
Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 30 minutes.
Bake at 400° for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Cool.
Cut the top fourth off each roll; carefully hollow out bottom, leaving a 1/4-in.
shell (discard removed bread or save for another use). Fill with chili, chowder or stew. Yield: 4 servings.

I make bread bowls all the time and love them for soup and chili or even for serving dip in. I would suggest then when making the balls of dough, to make sure the skin of the dough is pulled really tight. then gently roll the bottom seam on a flat surface to seal.
I like to brush an egg wash on the risen dough balls and sprinkle on seasonings like, salt, sesame seeds, Italian herbs, diced onions or garlic. It depends on what I am going to fill them with. I also like to make croutons with the interior crumb I scoop from the interior of the bowl. Croutons go really well with soup or even a bread bowl fondue.

Or make it into bread pudding, or as IC said Croutons, or dressing for stuffing some sort of bird, or bread crumbs for meat loaf or salmon croquets......use your imagination!!!

Yeah and I am inviting Miss Piggy and the whole gang including Bert & Ernie over for dinner as a cruel and unusual hoax. When they rant and rave on how wonderful dinner was and then ask why Big Bird was not invited I will exclaim "Oh he was" and then I will get very quiet and not say another word......when it finally dawns on them sometime in the middle of the night they will arise with a start and come gunning for me:D
