Looking for a book

Hi everyone

I am a widower and live alone. Bear with me here, I'll do my best to describe what I'm looking for.

Years ago I had a book that showed you how to make basic spice packs for meals. The author would make up a batch of spices that would be used in different meals and put them in baggies to be used as needed. In other words instead of getting out all your spices every time for every meal you would just grab a bag of pre-mixed spices and use them. But the basic spice mixes would be used for different meals depending on what the spices were mixed with.

For example: You would add a spice pack to tomato sauce for spaghetti or add the pack to something different for a topping for meatloaf. They were basic spice mixes that could be used for just about everything depending on what spices were used.

Sorry if I totally confused everyone but any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to Spice Place Al!

The book you describe doesn't sound familiar to me, but I'll do some googling and check at Amazon and see what turns up!

Hi all and thanks for the responses.

CanMan you pretty well got it, thank you. That's about what I was looking for. Going to be making my list of spices today. I'm still looking for the book though :)

Thanks all

Here, maybe this could help you.

5 basic sauces:

* Mayonnaise
* Brown Sauce
* Clear Sauce
* White Sauce
* Red Sauce

Those are the basic sauces that we use in cooking. Aside from that There are also 5 basic condiments.

* Salt
* Pepper
* Vinegar
* Sugar
* Hot Sauce

Now, It depends on you on how you will create your dishes with it. The dishes you will create will now be a variation of which of the 5 basic sauces. :)
