I wish there were a simple solution for this commer******m of Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving etc.... but there is no easy solution or answer. It may be that society on the whole has turned their back on tradition and religion and conventional wisdom! But I really do not believe that is so. We may feel that is so but there is no way it can be so if just a handful of us are even having this conversation. So......
What can make a difference is for each of us as individuals do our part to keep with tradition. Counter the materialism by interjecting "goodness and brotherly love and concern" into the holiday and continue to be filled with simple "goodness" and allow that little effort to have it's effect. Never forget there are also "ripple effects" as a boat goes thru the waters it can not help but make ripples, if you go through the holidays and use "friendly" reminders of the "reason for the season" (Christmas Cards, placing coins in the Salvation Army Kettle, donating canned goods to a food bank, placing Nativity scenes in your front yard, etc.) you will be causing "ripples" so to speak and that is all it takes, enough individuals do the good things the "ripples" will be felt and grow stronger and stronger and it will have a wonderful effect upon someone's life somewhere!!! You will be making a difference!

Did anyone catch the news between yesterday and today - talking about gift cards? many are saying it is not a good idea to give any with the economy the way it is because of stores closing and cards not being honored, etc.

I sort of agree with that - not everyone runs out and spends their gift cards the next day. Some put them away and that is a good way to lose the value fo the card or be able to use it.

I'll stick to personal gifts this year.

That is why the Mastercard/Visa/Amex cards are great. Unless one of these go bankrupt, your fine.

RE: "I Love that CD NOEL. I thought Josh Groban was in his 20's. "

Yep- Josh is GREAT! Fantastic voice!

BTW- I was only recently introduced to the music of "IL Divo". Lordy- has anyone else heard/seen them? If not, check out their website. By maneuvering around a bit you can watch several of their videos. Ya gotta see/hear "Halleluah" (My nephew calls it the "Shrek" song!). INCREDIBLE! Makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up, and sends shivers down one's spine! These boys are all pretty EZ on the eyes, too!

I just gave my 6 year old niece a gift and an american express gift card for her birthday. She has every toy in the world already so I was quite pleased when my sister told me she decided to use the gift card to buy a ferret! Both my niece and nephew loved my ferrets. I think it's nice for them to have a pet. They each have a ferret now and have been very responsible about taking care of their pets themselves.
