One of the things I most enjoyed about my years in Alaska was that due to the severe and extreme summer-time daylight hours, Summer Solstice- or June 21st- was always a huge deal. This day is the longest of the year and there was/is always lotsa fun partying going on in the woods, at the rivers, up in the mountains, and along the rocky shorelines of island beaches. Something about salmonbakes, crab-boils, clambakes and weenie roasts in the bright sun of midnight was just always a blast... so Happy Solstice to you all! :)

I love the solstice. The warm long day then the cool night lit by fireflys. It will be just me and hubby out on the porch with a bottle of wine. It's bittersweet though because it means from this point on we are on the inevitable down turn back toward winter.
