Pretend "Virtual" Pot-Luck

Oaky, I'm at work, things are slow- and needless to say, I'm bored out of my SKULL!

So...

Let's let our minds wander and pretend a wee-bit, shall wee?

Let make believe we all live in the same neck o' the woods. Tomorrow is gonna be a lovely Spring Sunday with sprouting trees, blooming flowers, singing robins and fresh, tender meadow grasses for us to spread our picnic blanket on and lounge in.

Food? Well, it's Pot-Luck! There are a couple of saw-horses nearby in the shade of a sprawling oak and across them are spread a sheet of plywood with a red & white checked cloth dressing it.

All across the gingham cloth are picnic baskets, casseroles, tupperware and pyrex heaped full of the very best our kitchens have to offer.

Which dish is yours? What did you make to bring to our first ever Annual Spice Place Spring Pot-Luck? :)

Dish???? I brought a bag of Almond Joys, lol.
Actually this is a very special occasion and all so some special brain burning is in order. I am thinking that since it's a nice spring day and all, maybe some type of Ramp dish is in order. A google on ramps may be in order here if you don't know what they are. Some of you may just prefer that bag of Almond Joys.
No Picnic is right without fried chicken so that blue bowl with a cloth cover on it is the fried chicken I made too. I marinated it over night in buttermilk and just dredged it in flour seasoned with salt and a lot of pepper. I hope it stayed warm and is still crispy.

I would bring a couple of my roasted chickens. They are stuffed with garlic and onion. Compound butter with garlic, parsley, rosemary and thyme placed between the skin and breasts. I brush the outside with olive oil and coat with McCormick Rotisserie chicken seasoning. I would bring a batch of my baby roasted new potatoes. They are halved and tossed with herbs de provence, minced garlic, olive oil, salt and pepper and roasted til crispy golden brown.

MMMM...IChef and janie! It can't get no better than ramps, buttermilk fried chicken, roasted hens and roasted baby red spuds- all loaded w/ tons of garlic and herbs! (Oh- and of course Almond Joys!)

I think my contribution will be a nice chilled Alaska-inspired pasta salad made w/ Ziti, chunks of kippered/smoked salmon, split grape tomaotes, ripe olives, feta, and lotsa olive oil, garlic, lemon juice & basil. Might even throw in some zonfandel-poached bay-scallops and spot-shrimp.

Then of course I hafta bring the retro cheese-ball that everyone always 'spects me to have made... think maybe I'll do a ham & pineapple one served w/ some rye-krisps.

And since one can't have a pot-luck without a jello mold, I'll bring a rich peach & cream cheese mold with pecans. And dessert? Hmmm... Let's see- Spring... Okay- I'll bring an unadorned naked tart lemon pound cake along with a dish of lime curd to top it with & some whipped cream.

I'll bring the Italian pasta salads, a decandent chocolate cake, apple pie squares, a seeded slaw, plenty of fresh fruit, corn muffins to go with the chicken and an olive salad.
And plenty of fresh homemade lemonade!

Swipes all the apple pie squares and picks out a nice tree to sit under and eats them all.

LOL - I'll have to make 4 different batches - hopefully you will leave one for the rest of us - one regular with a double crust, one Dutch-apple with the crumbs on top, one Dutch apple with raisins, and one double crust with walnuts and a light drizzle of icing on the top.

My Deviled Eggs, Potaot Salad to go with IC's Fried Chicken and Baked Beans, I would want to have a big slice of that cake ChubbyAlaskaGriz is holding in this photo! And of-course lots of slices of each of Mama's Apple Pies and some of Janie's roasted new 'taters um-m-m-m, then we gotta play volley ball and have a sack race and lots of frisbee and some old fashioned tug-o-war then end the whole day with an old-fashioned Taffy Pull and then build a bon-fire to roast marshmallows for Smores and hotdogs for the kids who incidentley did not get a whole lot to eat since they were swimming while we adults ate:D and we got so carried awat we simply ate almost everything:eek: BUT BOY OH BOY DID WE HAVE A FANTASTIC FEAST- A day that will go down in the annuals of Spice Place history.

I brought a nice big crockpot of baked beans, but then I saw that Cook Chatty had already brought some, so I went back home pouting, had a couple stiff drinks, then made a Southwestern Pasta Salad and went back to the fun. But by then all the adults were full from too much eating and trying to keep the kids from killing themselves, so they were all sound asleep. The kids were having a food fight with what was left. I was too snockered to care and just sat down with my bowl of salad between my legs and fell asleep. When everyone woke up we all commented on how great the party was.
:D :D

Ha, CanMan! You're a hoot!

But I cannot write any more now... I've grabbed my 5th chinet and am re-loading on your and Cath's baked beans, deviled eggs, janie's roasted chicken, IChef's fried chix, and mama's apple pie squares- all varieties... YUM!

I can't believe Griz held onto that cake all day. Even during the virtual sack races, he didn't even drop it or let it slide. Amazing. I swear, I never ever saw someone serve and hold a cake during a virtual volley ball game but he did, lol. I hope someone got a piece of it because I missed that serve.

RE: "I can't believe Griz held onto that cake all day."

I'm like a mama grizzly bear protectin' her cubs when it comes to cake! Don't try comin' between me and sweets- there'll be hell to pay- Ha!

Well it looks like I missed out on most of this pot luck fun. Since I'm coming to the party late I guess I will just bring some bottles of red wine and a pan of deep dark gluten free chocolate brownies.

Cool idea Jfain, especially the wine! I am going to run out and grab a few bottles too! I am very hopeful that by the time dawn rolls around CanMan will be ready to have a few more and then we will just start all over again, IT WAS SO MUCH FUN don't ya' know. And darn look at Kevin like IC said he's guarding that cake like it's gold, I know he'll let me have at least 1 bite when we FINALLY get to cut it:D

I would bring pasta salad, with meat and cheese and olives. For desert Homemade BIG Chocolate Chunk Cookies with chopped walnuts. I would also open a bag of Hershey's kisses and put them in between the cookies on a Big plate!! Cookie :)
