Whoa, Darlin'!

I didn't mean to imply that I did 400 miles all at once. That was the total number of foot miles traveled while doing the book; and includes some trails that didn't make the cut for one reason or another.

I don't know how it is in Georgia, but 'round heah we don't, as a rule, hike in the summer. Too many bugs. Too much heat and humidity. And too much foliage to be able to see anything.

But if you want to come up for about a week around Christmastime, I'll be glad to show you some of our scenic climaxes.

The year I researched the book was like this one, only more so. Non-stop monsoons all spring. So I couldn't get out on the trails until mid-June. And my first deadline (at which point half the book should have been ready) was September 15. So I probably did more than 300 of those miles in the heat of high summer.

Complicating things was the fact I was pushing a wheel, and stopping often to make notes, and taking pictures. None of which lets you break through to that personal walking rhythm that makes hiking so enjoyable.

If you're serious about buying the book just go on line. Search under "Hiking Kentucky," by Brook Elliott and Barbara Elliott. You'll get about a hundred hits from places that sell it.

Believe it or not, we've sold almost 8,000 copies so far, an incredible number for that type of book (or any book for that matter. The average book doesn't sell 2,000 copies, and doesn't even earn back the advance paid to the author). And it's in it's second printing. The year it came out it was the most popular non-fiction title in Kentucky.

Wow that is amazing! I am sure your book must be a very good one, and it only goes to show you that alot of people must love to hike in KY, a beautiful state through and through!

I am going to try Amazon 1st they are my favorite to purchase books from!

How about late Novemebr that would be a good time wouldn't it? Do you have any easy trails, my fiance has nerve damage in his back and I know an easy trek would suit him better as well as my 8 yr old? But we'll touch base closer to that time. This would be fun to do. It's been a while for me!

Thank you, Cathy

Actually, Cathy, most of our trails are easy to moderate.

It's only in the hill country of eastern Kentucky that we get into truly difficult trails. And that's because there are some with incredible changes in elevation---as much as 700 feet in an eighth of a mile.

But even our moderate + trails can be done if you just take it easy.

Let's talk about this later in the year.

You bet! Also there may be a post come out of this....Great Foods for a one day Hike! Just a suggestion and since you know more about it than I maybe you could start it if ya' have time to.

I am very much looking forward to reading your book, found it just fine, only cost $9.99 total. I am excited to read it, just the sample pg. I read I found to be very interesting and informative!

I have been to almost all 50 States; only 6 I have not been to. GA & KY are by far my favorite, GA and KY have so much greenery. My least favorite state was South Dakota it's just so dry and barren in alot of places, I am not a big fan of the Bad Lands, and I really do not care for the Desert either: Needles, CA was hot as hell! I really can't understand how anyone could live there.

I appreciate the info. on your book, saved me a trip to KY and look at all the gas I just saved! LOL

Thanks, Cathy

Pardon my language but Im in computer hell.

We went to our friends house. He is Thai which is all great. He is difficult to understand when he HASNT been drinking. Try getting him to tell you whats wrong with his computer when he is half drunk ...argh! Go in his room and mouse wasnt supposed to be working so we take him a new one..sit down at monitor and he tells me monitor stopped working. I ASKED if it was on. Oh yeah..he says its on it just stopped working. Ten minutes later he remembers he turned it off lol.

Then his wireless internet isnt working..we asked if he had fooled with it. Of course he says no. The BLIND man had to get under the desk and rerun the wires to fix the connection lol. We updated his antivirus and he has 563 trojans we take out. Then five minutes later they are back which means he probably has a Daddy trojan in there that keeps redownloading them. He doesnt want us to bring the pc home to fix cause he wants to play his online game says in a few days he will drop it off.

MEANWHILE I get an email from him and one of those trojans has emailed itself to me because I am in his address book  That one was my own fault that it got through because Jon and I email each other links to download stuff online. I should have had it set not to accept anything that could be a virus but I didnt :o Luckily my antivirus program caught it.

He doesnt know much at all about computers so Im thinking when we fix it for him Im going to set a Barney wallpaper with sound and password protect it :D I owe him one lol.
