Speaking of picky kids. Before my five year old niece started preschool she ate tons of different kinds of foods and loved all veggies. She wont touch cheese now or carrots, peas, tomatoes or lettuce. She said her friends at school didnt like them either
She did help me eat the tbone at Outback though. I couldnt get her to try the shrimp on the barbie. She kept trying to feed me her chicken fingers lol.
She used to love carrots and broccoli with ranch dip. Now she wont eat either.

Proof positive that kids are influenced by others!!!!! What a pity, I wish you could talk her into being herself, and bucking the temptation to follow the crowd, tell her how truly COOL it is to be different and call all your own shots in life. I guarantee in time she will return to eating the things she loves regardless of what the others say!

She was such a good eater before. I had no idea she had gotten this way til we went out to eat with them. I was trying to get her to share my salad cause she had always loved veggies in the past. She wasnt having any of it. I never figured she would be such a follower. Before she had always been a very independent kid.

A 5 year old disliking everything? I would understand the school thing if she were a bit older. I would look more at mom and dad over this one. A child that ages eating habits in my opinion are formed at home. Maybe your niece may pick up from other kids their dislikes but it seems to me that the meal makers are being push overs as far as having her eat healthy.

My kids are very finicky too with veggies. If they were allowed to get away with it they would have just eaten corn and lettuce in their world of veggies. Through the years, every dinner time two vegetables have always gone on the dinner table and they have to finish a serving of at least one of them. I have heard the grumbles and groans but as they have grown older they have come to appreciate the variety of produce out there, they each pick out a few to grow in the garden each year and they also make two vegetables when it's their night to make dinner.

A good tip for kids shying from vegetables, if you have the space, plant a little kid's veggie garden. I did with my youngest. I did a little pizza garden with her many years ago. I helped her grow a few tomato plants, garlic, oregano, basil, peppers and onions. What kid loves tomatoes,or peppers, or onions? Well, when we picked her little garden she had no complaints with the pizza we made together. To this day her favorite food is home made home grown pizza and the pizza garden has expanded to a few more items. No, I haven't figured out how to grow pepperoni yet.
