I always thought a Kitchenaid Mixer is a very cool kitchen gadget. Only problem is that I don't bake!

I drool over the Kitchen Aid mixers when I see them in the store, but I can't justify the cost for the modest baking I do. Years ago, when the Frugal Gourmet was on PBS, Jeff Smith used one all of the time, and it is an amazing device. I think the power and the fact it can mix heavy bread dough is what attracts me to it.

Lou Bear: Does the Kitchen Aid mix knead bread dough? When I was in the service they had this larger mixers, and made bread from scratch everyday, and no-one kneaded bread by hand. The mixer did it.

Old Bay, yes it does a great job, and with my arthritis it really takes the pain out of making bread making.

I love my mixer, I just don't get a ton of use out of it. I use it more this time of year due to all of the baking, but throughout the year it generally collects dust most of the time. :(

I own three.

1. K'Aid K45SS which I've had for 22 years this coming October, and is still working great!

2. K5SSUH which I've had for over two years.

3. Electrolux Assistant DLX-2000 which I also had for two years now.

All three work very well and they excel greatly in mixing stuff that I wouldn't even dare to tackle by hand! The Electrolux Assistant has and 8-qt SS bowl.
I wouldn't part with them for anything!!
