It's completely up to you. If you don't use it all that often, it may not be worth it to go get one. I use mine all the time. I actually have 2 of them. I have a big one & a small one. I use them quite frequently. I think they're good to have around. You can make soup in them & other things that you might want to slow cook.

my mom often tells me i need to use my crockpot more...I would love to find out if it is possible to start something at 6am when I leave for work and it me ready when I get home at 7pm without burning. Any suggestions?

just make sure what ever it is you're cooking has plenty of liquid and you just cook it on LOW all day. I think you should be fine to turn it on before you leave and have a hot dinner waiting when you get home.

I love my crock for soups and stews!

Thanks...I was afraid it will burn...maybe I will try it out this weekend while I am at home to check on the timeframes....Those cakes sure sound good! Especially the pinapple upside down cake!

I got one that I've had since the late '70s.

Still works as good as the day that I first bought it! Hardly use it now, but it IS nice to have when you want to slow cook something.

Most of my slow cooking, I do on the stove in one of my cast iron Dutch Ovens with the fire real low.
