Avocados were onsale for a really good price and I bought 4. However, they are unripe. Is there a better way than the paper bag idea to get them ripe? i love avocados and would love to make a salad with them this weekend.

My way to ripen avocados is to set them on the kitchen counter and wait a day or two until they feel soft. Sometimes you can find avocados in the store already ripened, but that's rare.
I too enjoy avocados in salads. I cut them about cucumber slice sized, and mix them into the tossed salad gently.

I try to keep them in direct sunlight for a day or two, or until they are ripe.

I have heard that the direct sunlight helps. I am doing the right now and they feel alittle bit softer. I am hoping to use them tomorrow in a taco salad.

I've always just left the avocados in a plastic sack on the counter and the avocados ripened fine without direct sunlight. Direct sun could help, just I haven't even done it.
