I have yet to give my fondue pot a try. I was wondering if anyone has a cheesy garlicky fondue recipe that they have tried? I have a bunch of cheddar in the fridge but many of the fondue recipes I found for cheese fondue include beer. I do not want to make a trip three counties over to get beer so what if anything can I sub for the beer? Jon does have an friend who drinks constantly and I could get a beer from him but I just don't care for the flavor or smell of beer. Melted cheese on the other hand ...I love!

My father in law ...Mr Heaven forbid he eat anything that looks fattening like a pot of melted cheese wouldnt even try cheese fondue or I would make some for Sunday supper. If my younger sis and her kids were coming for a visit they would love to try cheesy fondue lol.

Janie, I've made cheese fondue using white wine- or even apple cider! I've also heard heard of many fondues made w/ chicken stock, rose wine, and even wine coolers!

I'm a blue cheese fan- and my fav fondue is some crumbled blue mixed into some bechamel w/ a pinch of tabasco and nutmeg- YUM!

This is something that was served at a party a while back - I got it from a friend if you want to try it -

1 can cheddar cheese soup
1 can cream of 'something' soup
1 cup cheese cubed (cheddar, Muenster, brick all melt well - Colby,
Mozzarella 'string' more, but still will work)
about 1/4 to 1/2 c milk

Put in a saucepan on med. low heat, stirring often until melted together. Serve with fresh Italian or French bread and veggies for dipping - we like broccoli and cauliflower dipped in the cheese.

Also - she had a mixture of Cheddar, salsa and jalapenos for another. She used a little tomato juice in that one.

this is a basic fondu -

2 cups milk
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons ground dry mustard
1 clove garlic, peeled and crushed
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
6 cups shredded Cheddar cheese

In a medium saucepan over low heat, mix together milk, Worcestershire sauce, ground dry mustard, garlic and flour. Heat until almost boiling. Gradually stir in Cheddar cheese. Continue heating until all the cheese has melted. Keep the mixture warm and melted in a fondue dish.

or

1 (1 pound) loaf round bread
1 (8 ounce) package shredded Cheddar cheese
2 (3 ounce) packages cream cheese
1 1/2 cups sour cream
1 cup cooked ham, diced
1/2 cup chopped green onions
1 (4 ounce) can diced green chile peppers
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 tablespoon butter, melted

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Cut a circle in the top of the bread. Remove top, and set aside. Hollow out the loaf, reserving removed bread for dipping.

In a medium bowl, mix the Cheddar cheese, cream cheese, sour cream, ham, green onions, green chile peppers, and Worcestershire sauce. Spoon into the bread bowl, and replace the top. Wrap loaf tightly in foil, and place on a baking sheet.

Bake until cheese is melted and bubbly, about 1 hour.

Meanwhile, cut reserved bread into small pieces. Toss with oil and melted butter, and place on the baking sheet. Toast in oven until golden brown, about 10 to 15 minutes.

I hope this helps a bit!

Pizza Fondu

1 pound ground chuck or ground turkey
1 small onion, chopped
1 or 2 cloves garlic, minced
2 (10 ounce) cans pizza sauce
1 1/2 cups shredded natural Cheddar cheese
1 cup shredded natural mozzarella cheese
Cubed French bread

Crumble ground beef into a microwave-safe plastic colander; mix in onion and garlic. Place colander in large bowl. Microwave, uncovered, on HIGH 4 to 5 minutes, until pink color is gone from meat; Discard fat collected in bowl. Transfer meat to casserole or fondue dish. Mix in remaining ingredients except bread. Microwave, uncovered, on HIGH for 5 to 7 minutes, until cheeses melt and fondue bubbles. Stir to blend mixture.

Serve with bread cubes to twirl in mixture. Return to microwave oven to reheat, if necessary, or place over burner to keep warm while serving.
