Do the rest of you have many foodie friends other than the people on this forum? My sis loves food but she has two small kids and maybe a third on the way so she doesnt get much time for cooking. I have another friend who makes fabalous sushi and is def a foodie. He and his wife have a small baby so his time is also limited. I wish I had someone close who loves cooking like I do. Cathy needs to move and that is all there is to it ;)
My younger sis's idea of cooking are a lot of those premade meal kits or something with everything frozen in a bag you throw in a skillet lol.

It is so funny with the rest of the family. Cole and my other brother and sister love anything I cook. They all say it reminds them of Mom's cooking but better. My brother says once he crosses the county line to get here his stomach starts to growl lol. Anytime I know they are coming I make them something I know they really like and have it waiting.
It is funny with the oldest brother and sister they crave things like skillet fried potatoes and pinto beans with ham hocks in them or a big pot of greens. The stuff we ate a lot growing up. My little sister loves when I make her a big pot of greens and some cornbread baked in an iron skillet.
Ever since I married Jon I have gotten the job of cooking the big holiday dinners for his side of the family. Jon's Mom and Dad are divorced for eleven years now. His Mom and her hubby had us down to their place with another couple for dinner the other day. His Mom starts every dinner when she fills Jon's plate with..this isnt gonna be as good as Janie's lol.
It would be so nice to have someone close to share a big pot of soup with. I miss my little neighbor who moved away last June. She was always up for a meal with me. Jon is on a freakin diet since the new year started.

Funny Note...I almost squashed one of the landlords with a big heavy bag of garbage yesterday. I had two bags and tossed one over the balcony and planned to carry the other downstairs. I didnt hear the landlord come out the door behind the stairs and I juuuuuust missed him with it :p I wouldnt want to hit him. He is the nice one lol.

Good thread, janie!

I don't really have a lot of foodie friends nearby, now. Since I left kitchens a while back it seems most folks I'm surrounded by have tastes far different from mine- or don't really appreciate food/cooking on more than a basic level at all. My family have pretty simple tastes- which is fine... but they are also real finicky, which we've discussed here before. I miss folks who LOVE food and are willing to try most anything w/ GUSTO!

I also miss food adventuring w/ Arturo. It was nothing for he and I to plan a day-trip 250 miles from Portland (where he kept a condo) w/ no plan at all except for where we would eat- and what we would order from the menu! We toured vineyards, dairies, and quaint l'il back-road hamlets known for boutique-cafe's and fun bakeries and pizzerias. I remember once we drove all the way to the coast just for pan-fried razor clams at a beach bar we knew well! Another l'il hole in the wall joint served s'mores that the server made at the nearby hearth while we watched- it was SO fun!

Cathy, if you move you had better be careful when you walk outdoors. Make sure to look up before exiting.

Most of my family members are foodies to varying degrees. I think that I am probably the most foodified of bunch, though. ;)

Jaine,
I got a really terrific Valentine's Day card from my husband:

It reads; My love for you keeps on growing........Sorta like my stomache!

Now if you and I lived close to each other we would be sending each other similar cards:D

Bu I just know we would love every minute of it!!!!:)
