Last night I was at my sis's and some of her friends joined us. The conversation got around to Thanksgiving foods- and the yummy things our Moms used to make.

It wasn't long before almost everyone there had longingly come up with many things our Moms used to cook- that no matter how we try, we cannot duplicate today.

I'm a (or was) professional chef- but for the life of my there are two things- deviled eggs and cornbread dressing- that I make that cannot come even close to touching my Mom's. And I believe we even use the same recipe- Go figure! I guess it must just be somethin' about a Mama's loving touch... :)

What items do YOU wish you could make as well as your Mom... or your Gramma... but aren't able to?

Isnt it something how most people always love atleast some things their Mom made when they were kids?
My Mom was a very good cook. She made fantastic buttermilk biscuits in which she used lard. I could make them that way but I cannot bring myself to use lard. Everything else she made I can do as good as she did. I took over most of the cooking for the family when I was pretty young. I made a few things for Dad and the rest while Mom was away and they liked mine better lol. Mom used to do one thing that drove me mad. She would put a lid on her fried chicken which kept it from getting crispy. I hated that but she liked it better that way. When ever I made the big pots of veggie soup for the family I would use part tomato sauce and crushed tomatoes where Mom used all tomato juice. She said she liked hers thinner lol. I make most things just like she did ..just tweaked to my taste.
Her Mom used to make the yummy apple butter stack cakes that were heaven. I have made them a few times but mine never taste the same. Im guessing there was lard invovled lol.

Kevin I love your avatar!

Jons Mom had deviled eggs at the dinner she had the other day. She had gone crazy with them. They had tons of lemon juice, vinegar and Worcestershire sauce and other strange things in them.

I have a few ~ but from my father: I wish I could make my gravy as well as my father could, and his meatloaf~ oh, it was to die for, and potato latke's which were the absolute best and of course his excellent PEA SOUP.
