Yeah I just dont like Ms Sticky Fingers trying to take advantage of Jons Dad. Playing up the old Sunday school teacher part.
I have had my days and nights turned around big time since I have been sick. Jon and I have been staying up all night and sleeping through the day. We went to bed about 9:30 last night and woke up about 3am. Thats a little tiny bit more on track I guess lol.
I put my little turkey in its brine this morning. I plan to make dinner for Jon and I tomorrow. Id like to get ours done before I have to start prepping everything for the big dinner at his Dads this Thur. Im going to make herb roasted turkey, garlic and herb biscuits, gravy, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, salad & oyster dressing for the two of us. I havent decided what to do for dessert yet. I was thinking of a chocolate roll cake with bavarian cream filling and eggnog custard pie for Jon.
I have to go catch up with his Dad sometime today and see what he wants made for the dinner at his house Thur. He usually gives me the money to shop for everything we will need. I figured Id get the rest of what I need for my dinner and his all in one trip.
I have a big batch of homemade chicken stock simmering on the stove this morning for my dinner and to use later this week.
I hope everyone has a wonderful turkey day!

They say you can't choose your family- but you CAN choose your family-of-friends... Well, over the years I've enjoyed the love of many wonderful families-of-friends... there've been fellow students in my dorm, fellow-employees in staff-housing facilities at remote site Alaskan resorts and work-camps... and other single friends and couples of all persuasions in various communities (ever enjoyed turkey carved by an Eskimo whale-hunter, smoked salmon spread & mini bagels brought by a lumberjack, pumpkin cheesecake served by a drag-queen or blackberry cobbler scooped by a pre-op F-to-M transexual? Hee!). But this Thanksgiving I get to experience a tiny gathering with yet another slightly less than typical "family".

Since my folks are divorced (have been for many years) and I'll be celebrating the actual holiday with my Dad & his wife- and my sister & her family, I'll celebrate w/ my Mom on Sunday. A teensy side affect to her mental illness is a sometimes-issue with a fear of going outside her own apartment. At times we've been able to overcome that fear though, and I've been able to bring her to my place an hour away a few times for meals- and even to spend the night.

I'm very excited because I've been talking about having her over to my place Sunday for a nice Thanksgiving-style meal. Well, I got a call yesterday that not only does she think she would be up for it- but she also asked if she could bring a pair of guests! two lady-friends she's been talking with in the laundry area when she irons and such. Well, I called the building my Mom lives in and spoke with a counselor who confirmed that Mom and these 2 gals seem to have an amiable friendship (they also play Yahtzee and Rummy, and watch The View and some court tv shows together) and get along well- and that these women are well enough for such social interaction, being away from home for the day, etc. This counselor also called the women's family reps and double-checked their comfort-level w/ their Moms accompanying MY Mom as her guest to my place. They approved.

So, Sunday morning I'll go pick-up Mom, Lois & Trudy and they'll spend the day at my place. I will time the cooking so that the smell of the small turkey will welcome us home when we get there- then I'll have an unbaked pumpkin pie and cranberry eggnog pie to slip right into the oven and soon those aromas will start-up as well. I'll serve all the trimmings from jello mold to green bean casserole, and make sure to pick-up some shiny new plastic seal-containers to ensure I have plenty of storage for leftovers to divide between the three women when I take them home.

Whudda thunk I'd ever be this excited to have a trio of emotionally/mentally-challenged dates for the weekend? Ha! I'm crossing my fingers- and will let you all know how it goes!
