Yeah postage would be a bummer! One year I had pears and figs coming out of my ears so I pkg.'d them up nice and neat and mailed them to all the ( in-laws er..ungratefuls) I could think of, never even received a thank you, guess they thought it to be wierd. I was just trying to share the bounty! Did that ever cost a small fortune to overnight those boxes!
This evening I had to replant 2 rows in my garden, while I was gone on vacation something ate my 2 rows of spinach that I just got up. So this time I just planted 2 more rows of.......sugar snap peas, yummy!!! But I love my spinach, and so I will plant more in the fall. I have always admired farmers and all the odds that are against them, just imagine all that they go through!
I wish I had a digital camera I would post you some pictures of my garden, you'd get a kick out of it. I am a fastidious housekeeper and when you look at my garden you will recognize that, it's so darn pretty and neat I almost think I am looking at a picture out of a magazine when I look at it! It's funny! I used old carpet and stuff to cover the ground and so I do not even have to weed, if a piece of grass comes up I trim it with the scissors, and I have absolutely no weeds. This has by far been my best ever experience with a garden in my entire life, it's so great!!! I do not mind sweating or getting mosquito bites or even a sore back from bending over. I wonder if I will feel this way for every year coming up? Maybe it is because I got to do it all my way, and I didn't have someone knocking my ideas (quite the opposite) and I was given free reign. That is such a remarkable and wonderful feeling! Now my fiance just beams and brags on what a green thumb I have got, he's taking pictures with his cell phone and sending them to his family members in New York, it's so funny!
Well Jg I will not bore you with any more "garden talk"! Well not for this post anyway LOL!

Cathy,

The way to ship fresh produce and fruit, and keep it cost effective, is with a Fedex or UPS flat-rate box.

Of course, it takes a bunch of stuff to fill one up. So only send it to folks who appreciate your effort.

Just a hint on why other than the rain that many of the those plants are not doing anything..

The soil is probably a lower temperature than optimal for all these plants due to the rain. Also, all that rain spurs them into root production so a lot is probably going on underground.

Once you get a few nice hot days, you will see those plants start growing.

Cathy I would happily pay for a box of figs when you have them.
I cannot get them anywhere around here.
