Yes Nan I have just recently purchased rose water, and there is a orange flower water also used in Moroccan cooking as well. I have a recipe that I want to try using the rose water it is:

Watermelon Salad with Rose Water and Lemon Balm

3 1/2 lbs. watermelon cubed & de-seeded
2 tsp sugar
3-4 tbsp rose water
a small bunch of fresh lemon balm

Place watermelon cubes in bowl, mix sugar & rose water until sugar is dissolved pour over watermelon, toss, cover & refergerate 1 hr or longer.
Toss the watermelon one more time before serving, scatter the lemon balm leaves over the top and serve.

I have smelled and tasted the rose water it smells very much like sweet roses! It has a distinct rose flavor, very different and I just know I have had it somewhere at sometime & just can't pin it down. Maybe at a restaurant called The New Jerusalem Cafe.

Funny you should mention basil and the slugs, I am experiencing a problem with squirrels digging thru mine at night the darned little "dickens", I keep threatening to let my dog sleep near the basil and protect it at night, he's a mini-pinscher and a house dog and sleeps with my grandaughter at night, I am afraid he will think it strange if we leave him out all night. But I love fresh basil and hey it's about time he do something to contribute to his upkeep:D Plus the squirrels are ravishing the young pears on our pear tree, what's one to do:confused:
