According to the U.S.D.A. the following food items – from highest to lowest – have the greatest concentration of antioxidants:

1. Small red beans (dried)
2. Wild blueberries
3. Red kidney beans
4. Pinto beans
5. Blueberries (cultivated)
6. Cranberries
7. Artichokes (cooked)
8. Blackberries
9. Prunes
10. Raspberries
11. Strawberries
12. Red Delicious apples
13. Granny Smith apples
14. Pecans
15. Sweet cherries
16. Black plums
17. Russet potatoes (cooked)
18. Black beans (dried)
19. Plums
20. Gala apples

Better start adding more of these to your recipe ingredients! :)

I remember reading on a bag of dried blueberries that they had extremely high levels on anti-oxidents. I think the manufacturer claimed they had the highest level of any food, but that coold be by weight.

I didn't realize that beans were loaded with anti-oxidents. I try to eat them often too.

My guideline had always been bright and deep colored foods like tomatoes, brocolli, and carrots.

Thanks for the list tinker!

I love eating blueberries b/c not only are they high in antioxidants, they're also low in pesticides :). So you get a double whammy of health from them!

And don't forget to drink Pomegranite Juice! It's pricy but very good and very good for you too!
So it's the anti-oxidents in pomegranite juice that has made it a product I see everywhere these days? I never took the time to look at the container and see what the health benefits were.

I love to eat pomegranites when they are available in season. I didn't know that they were so health. Makes a mess too. A good outdoor food.

I love them - I can't wait till they come out each fall! And the juice is excellent, not sweet, a bit tart - but I started to drink it about a year ago and I can honestly say that I have fewer colds (I live in the snow belt!) and I also eat at least 4 oz. yogurt each day. I think that combination works very well.

I have read that tomatoes have a high concentration of antioxidants as well. During the summer months my family eats lots of salads that are just tomato, cucumber and onions. I also love drinking tomato juice.

Tomatoes are excellent - I don't have any blood in my veins - it's all tomato sauce!! I love tomatoes with onion, olive oil, salt, pepper and basil....makes a great salad or sandwich stuffer. Stuffed tomates, baked tomatoes, plain tomatoes, you name it - I eat it! Tomatoes in omelets, on sandwiches, as salads, with beans and a vinaigrette, mmmmmmmmmmmmm..........

I loooooove tomatoes. My favorite way to eat them is sliced with fresh mozzarella cheese, fresh basil, and olive oil. Oh that is soooooooooooo good (especially when you leave them that way for an hour or two to give the flavors time to meld).

This is a great list. I need to refer to it when buying groceries from now on.

I loooove blueberries. Now I have another excuse to make blueberry cobbler! (As if I needed one, LOL).

You know, I don't know that I have ever tasted pomegranates. I should remedy that situation, and quickly.

Yes, tomatoes does have antioxidants (lycopene) but I read that it wasn't on that list because the anti-oxidant level is not that high/negligible when you eat it raw. Cooking releases the antioxidants to that you have to cook it first before you get the good stuff.

How about broccolli and chocolate and coffee and tea. I heard they are also rich in antioxidants. I especially like the news with chocolate. It allows for an excuse to eat lots.
