There are six apartments here. Two on each end and two in the middle. We were on the middle front. The guy in the middle back chain smokes. Our ac units are not connected but his dryer vent, bathroom ceiling vent and bathroom drains connect to ours. Now, Jon and I are both very allergic to cig smoke. One shot of it and my entire head swells up and I get a headache so bad I cannot stand to lay my head on a pillow.

We have lived here for ten years and never had a problem with smoke til this guy moved in about 2-3 years ago. The landlord sent a guy up in the attic to make sure the door between his attic and ours was closed. It was open. Other than that all the landlord said was the guy had the right to smoke in his apartment. I feel sorry for anyone who rents that apartment later if they have allergies. As much as he smokes there is no way they are gonna get that all out of there and I can imagine what the ventilation looks like. The guy they sent back there told me the smoke was so thick it was like walking through a cloud. He was more sympathetic than the landlords.
He smokes so much it backtracks into our dryer. Sometimes when I open the dryer door it smells like an ash tray. I have to run it a little while first with a dryer sheet in it to air it out. We have started keeping a plug in the bathroom sink because it comes up through it. It even seeps in around the pipes under the sink where our bathrooms are back to back. You can open the cabinet under the sink to get something and smell it.
This guy has been dating the same woman for about 2 years. I told my husband I had hoped he would move in with her but so far no luck. The next renter couldnt possibly smoke more than him. Jon and I have been here longer than anyone else.
Our landlords's Dad was a tobacco farmer for years so he is not very sympathetic. It is bad enough to get blasted with smoke from people standing right in the door of every store you go to but in your own home you shouldnt have to suffer. We had gotten a nice break from this guy for about 6 weeks. He was gone and he let someone else stay back there who didnt smoke. Well that guy is gone and smokey is back.
My allergies are killing me all over again. I have the worst headache and cannot sleep
On the bright side the new McDonalds they just opened is non smoking. Our restaurants are slowly starting to go non smoking. Our Arbys, McDonalds & Taco Bell are non smoking. That just leaves about 12 more to join
That is one of the biggest reasons I make the trip to Walmart. Its non smoking. Both of the pitiful grocery stores here in town allow smoking. Nothing more appetizing that someone hanging over the fresh veggies with a cig hanging out of their lips dropping ash into the lettuce. Around here if you say anything to a manager you get treated like the one with the problem because so many people around here smoke.

Tobacco country around here. I took Jon to the doctors office yesterday and this guy was standing in front of the office with a cig in one hand and an inhaler in the other.

"Tobacco Country" reminds me of the Richard Gere/Jody Foster movie from several years back that took place in Kentucky- what was it called? "Sommersby"? GREAT story! And of course who doesn't love Jody's & Richard's talented acting? Also James Earl Jones was in it- one of my all time FAVS!

Yeah I remember that movie. I loved James Earl Jones.
Atleast the town that we go to when I want to hit up Walmart, Krogers and Big Lots has a county wide smoking ban. That was just recently passed. It is just frustrating when people smoke from the car all the way to the door and then stand right in front of the doors huffing and puffing to finish before they go inside. Finish them in your car for crying out loud.
