I know Krogers is more expensive on most things but Jon and I go there sometimes for seafood and they have a huge selection of spices.

I get smoked provolone, swiss, gouda and cheddar at a deli here in town for $5.50 a pound. At Krogers 1/3 of a pound of smoked provolone was $8.03!

Good golly are you sure they did not make a mistake weighing it?!?! That is ludicrous, it would be akin to eating caviar:rolleyes: Me I would have had them put it back PRONTO! Their Deli is way too pricey even here in Rome!

I didnt get it. It was over on the table beside the olive bar.
I was just shocked at the huge difference in price.
I have a pound of smoked swiss and smoked cheddar from the place here in town.

I grew up with Kroger's and go there only occasionally today because in my area, I feel they're SO significantly pricier than many other places. Kroger's bought my all-time FAV grocery-store chain "Fred Meyer" which is on the west coast and in Alaska. It's hands-down the lovliest grocery with highest quality foods, high-end gourmet ingredients, super-wide selection, etc.- PLUS- the "SUPER Fred's" have the added bonus of a quality "Target"-like addition where one can find everything from clothes, dishes, kitchen trinkets, home furnishings, art, music, books, toys, etc. It's quality, affordable one-stop shopping! Since Kroger's is based in Ohio- I keep hoping/praying they'll eventually bring Fred Meyer to the midwest... we shall see. If any of you get a chance ever- go in one- they're pretty incredible places!

Since I have a Whole Foods close I never go to Kroger's. If I'm going to pay through the nose at least it may as well be organic and local when possible.
