  1. Rinse beans; soak overnight in 3 cups water, don't drain.
  2. Simmer, covered 2 hours.
  3. Drain, reserving liquid.
  4. In same pan , cook bacon until almost crisp.
  5. Add minced onion and garlic.
  6. Stir in cooked beans , tomatoes, cooked rice, salt, paprika and pepper.
  7. Add reserved bean liquid and enough water to make 4 cups.
  8. Bring to a boil.
  9. Cover and simmer 1 hour.
  10. If soup is too thick, add more water.
