  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Cream together the butter and sugar
  3. Mix egg in milk, then add to the creamed sugar.
  4. Add vanilla; Beat well.
  5. Add flour, baking powder, and salt; Mix well.
  6. Roll batter into small balls, then dip in the coconut. Top with cherry if desired.
  7. Place on a greased cookie sheet, and bake until lightly browned, about 8 minutes .
