Well they blasted away at the moon and they made a mess and it wasn't too easy to see from the earth's observatories and folks were disappointed and we now get to wait on pins and needles to see if there was ever water up there or not! This is all too exciting:rolleyes:

RE: "Americans seem to be retreating into their own little worlds centered on themselves and losing the spirit of adventure and curiosity."

When I worked at lodges in Alaska owned by Princess Cruises in the early 90's we hired many students from around the world. I was 24 and the "foreigners" were all 20 to 25 or so, too. The Europeans and those from Asia as well as other places were total news hounds. They sat in front of CNN many free moments during the day and read news mags and newspapers- just like our culture used to all sit in fron of Walter Cronkite and John Chancelor decades ago for a half-hour just after supper, religiously. These kids were very curious, very aware and very in-tune w/ world events. Very "connected" and involved.

The foreigners were polite and gracious about it- they never wished to offend us, but often they questioned we young Americans' lack of interest in the news of the world. Many close friends confided in me that those from different nations viewed American youth as being so self-centered that they didn't have an interest, nor feel any need to be aware of news events. They thought we all kinda felt like we were the very center of the universe, and if there's ever anything important going on- we're likely involved and already know about it anyway, so why take the time to watch and read?

Today all us student-aged kids are in our 40's. Hmmm...

All of this upsets me to no end. We have plenty of higher priorities right here on earth. I can live the rest of my life quite happily without ever knowing anything else about the moon and anything else beyond. It's a complete waste of money. But then again is it any worse than the corporate bailout that our children and grand children are stuck paying for ? I am fed up with Washington. Republicans , Democrats, it doesn't matter. We are being screwed by the very people we elected. And given the fact that the only ones that have the money to run for any public office are narcissistic, and low life scum to begin with, well that's who ends up running our country. Our life's are so controlled by the government it's scary. Our founding fathers would be appalled at what our nation has become. Politicians have no sense of sacrifice. At one time believe it or not, congressman and senators did not get paid, they had no residence in Washington. They lived in their home states and traveled on their money to meet in Washington. .....................I'd better stop now before I really start going

I feel ya, Rick... I feel ya, fer shure. Actually, I am very political but I have learned elsewhere that I myself am better off saying nothing, 'cause I get to feeling passionate, and sooner or later I say something that offends. I am just conservative enuf to where I pizz-off my liberal loved ones- and just liberal enuf to where conservatives don't want me, either! It's HELL to have TWO SIDES rolling their eyes at me! :) And offending isn't what my intention is- still- it seems to be what happens. So, I personally have to abstain from political talk. Not telling anyone else what to do or how to feel- but that's how I have to handle myself. So, I keep it all bottled-up and only explode around those near and dear to me! Ha! :)
