- 1/2 cup butter or margarine
- 1 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tsp cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tbsp vinegar
- 2 ounces red food coloring
- Make paste of cocoa, baking soda, and vinegar. Cream butter and sugar.
- Add eggs and beat again.
- Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk.
- Mix in the cocoa paste and red food coloring.
- Bake at 350° F. for 35 minutes in a 9x12" pan which has been greased and lightly floured.
