Saffron Bread Ingredients

  1. Soften yeast in 1/4 cup water.
  2. Soften saffron in 1/4 cup water.
  3. Mix together remaining 1 1/2 cups water, sugar, melted butter, salt and egg.
  4. Stir in yeast and saffron mixtures.
  5. Add flour and knead until smooth and elastic.
  6. Put in greased bowl and let rise 2 times.
  7. Divide the dough in half and then each part into thirds.
  8. Roll the dough into long ropes and braid the loaves.
  9. Place in 2 well greased 9x5x3 inch bread pans. Let the Saffron Bread dough rise about 30 minutes.
  10. Brush the top of the loaves with beaten egg and sprinkle with poppy seeds.
  11. Bake Saffron Bread at 375° F. for 1 hour.

Makes 2 loaves of Saffron Bread.
