Oatmeal Bread Ingredients

To make Oatmeal Bread

  1. Soften the yeast in the warm water and let sit for 10 minutes.
  2. Combine the boiling water, oats, molasses, and butter. Stir in 1 cup flour, then add beaten egg.
  3. Add yeast mixture.
  4. Add enough flour to make a soft dough (about 1 1/2 cups). Knead in approximately 1/2 to 3/4 cup more flour. Knead until smooth.
  5. Place in a lightly greased bowl, turning dough to grease all sides. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise until doubled (about 1 1/2 hours). Punch down.
  6. Coat a well greased 9x5 bread pan with 2 tbsp rolled oats.
  7. Shape loaf and place in pan. Brush with mixture of 1 egg white and 1 tbsp water.
  8. Sprinkle top of Oatmeal Bread with rolled oats.
  9. Bake at 375° F. for 40 minutes.

Makes 1 loaf of Oatmeal Bread.
