Rye Bread Ingredients

To make Rye Bread

  1. Soften yeast in warm water for about 10 minutes.
  2. Add sugar, salt and shortening, brown sugar and sorghum.
  3. Mix well. Add rye flour and mix well.
  4. Add white flour and knead well by hand to mix.
  5. Cover, and let rise until double in size, knead lightly again and form loaves. Place tye Rye Bread dough in greased 9x5 loaf pans.
  6. Cover, and let the Rye Bread rise in the 9x5 pans at least one hour.
  7. Bake Rye Bread 1 hour at 300° F. Don't use a hotter oven, as rye bread burns easily.
  8. Depending on size of loaves, this recipe makes about 6 loaves of Rye Bread.
