McCormick Imitation Maple Flavor 16oz 0.47L - FAQ

Q: What is McCormick Maple Flavor?
A: McCormick Maple Flavor is a maple-flavored extract made from natural and artificial flavors carried in alcohol. It provides the warm, sweet taste of maple without the thickness or color of syrup.
Q: How is it used in baking and cooking?
A: Use Maple Flavor to bring maple taste to pancakes, waffles, French toast, cakes, cookies, muffins, frostings, candies, glazes, sauces, and even drinks like coffee or milkshakes. A little goes a long way -- most recipes call for only 1/2 to 1 teaspoon.
Q: Why does Maple Flavor contain alcohol?
A: Yes. Most extracts, including McCormick's, use alcohol as the carrier. The "imitation" part refers to how the flavor is made, not the alcohol content. Alcohol is the "extractor" that draws the flavor from ingredients and helps spread it evenly in your recipe. The amount is small, and when you bake or heat with it, alcohol's low boiling point (about 170° F) means most of it cooks off, leaving only the maple flavor.
Q: Is Maple Flavor the same as maple syrup?
A: No. Maple Flavor is a concentrated extract -- it delivers maple taste without the sugar or heavy texture of syrup. It is a great choice when you want the flavor only, not the added sweetness. Because it has no syrup sugars, it can fit into sugar-free, lower-carb, or diabetic-friendly recipes where you still want that warm maple flavor.
Q: What size is offered?
A: McCormick Maple Flavor is sold in 16 oz (1 pint, about 0.47 L) bottles.
Q: Who makes it?
A: Imitation Maple Flavor is made in the USA by McCormick & Company, Hunt Valley, Maryland.
Q: Can I use Maple Flavor in traditional cookie or pastry recipes?
A: Yes. Maple Flavor can be used anywhere you want a warm maple note. One customer mentioned using it in a Lebanese Christmas cookie called Maamoul, a buttery semolina shortbread usually flavored with rose water or orange blossom. Maple Flavor gives these festive cookies a North American twist without adding sugar, and it works just as well in other holiday pastries, frostings, and glazes.
